Hello friends ! It’s day 17 of our Advent Calendar, and in my book it’s time to decorate the Christmas tree. I don’t usually do this too soon, because of my little predator. In last year’s video I sang her praise for being good and me not stressing too much about ornaments getting broken. And then all hell broke loose.
So this year I’m testing a new approach, in line with my Scandinavian theme : a tree decorated with wood and paper ornaments, with some little exceptions.
I have an artificial tree that I use every year, and in order to compensate for the lack of scent, I diffuse some pine essential oil in the house.
From all the research I did online, and from the trees I saw in Copenhagen a few days ago, Scandinavian Christmas trees are quite rustic and playful in style. Many times neutral, or maybe with a hint of holiday red, Scandi trees have many wooden and paper decorations, in an airy setup that leaves space for the deep green to shine.
Besides my few bookish ornaments you’ve already seen, I went with large paper hearts I bought at my favourite Danish shop here in Paris, they were pre-cut and ready to weave into shape. I also used my winter themed wooden toys, some discreet plastic ice snowflakes and drops, and a few other textile items I had at hand. I had no color scheme this year, only the intention of muted tones and light materials.
Once the fairy lights go on, everything looks magical. This will be my reading spot for the next few weeks, while I continue discovering the folk tales of Scandinavia and knit away.
Until tomorrow, oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree…
