Dessert : English Scones

If you wish to prepare an afternoon cream tea fit for a queen, get ready to test the easiest scones recipe out there. All you’ll need is some clotted cream (or mascarpone if you can’t find any), strawberry jam, and a teapot full of delicious black tea. The rest is pure ecstasy… Let’s get started !

Ingredients :

250 gr flour
50 gr white sugar
1 sachet of baking powder (10 gr)
pinch of salt
75 gr cold butter
1 egg
100 ml milk

Preheat your oven to 190°C.

Start off by mixing the dry ingredients in a large bowl : flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Then add in the cold butter cut into little cubes. With clean (and cold) hands, start mixing the flour and the butter, massaging them with the tips of your fingers. You should get a “sandy” consistency in the end.

In a separate bowl, mix the egg and milk, then add them to the rest of the ingredients and swiftly mix into a dough. It’s ideal not to over knead the dough.

Flatten the dough out into a circle of about 15cm high. Then, with a cookie cutter (or a glass), cut out round scones and place them on a baking tray. Bake for about 15min, or until golden and fragrant.

Serve them warm, and enjoy the simple pleasures of a 5 o’clock tea.
