It’s that time of year again—Roland Garros is back, and with it comes the unmistakable rhythm of clay underfoot, the hush before a serve, the drama of a five-set match under the Parisian sun, and the smell of sunscreen in the air.
To celebrate, I’ve released a special episode of The Ritual of Reading Podcast that brings together my love of tennis and storytelling. In this one, I trade tea cups for tennis balls and reflect on the literary elegance of the sport—its rituals, its psychology, and its beautiful contradictions. You’ll hear three nonfiction book recommendations on tennis, plus a few thoughts from me on why this game continues to move me year after year.

Some of these reflections first came to life a few years ago, when I wrote a post and filmed a video that remain close to my heart. If you’re feeling nostalgic—or curious—about how it all started, you can revisit them here :
Here’s to a new tournament, old emotions, and the enduring poetry of the game.
